IVC FILTER
IVC filters have extremely high fracture rates, especially among retrievable IVC filters – filters that are designed only for short-term use and protection. The longer that a patient has an IVC filter, the greater the chance of injury to the patient. In many cases, the IVC filter may break and cause fragments to move to the lungs, heart, or other nearby organs.
Although a major IVC filter manufacturer has redesigned its filters, its safety is still in question.
A fractured IVC filter may cause the following, and more:
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Filter Fracture or Migration
- Vein Perforation or Blockage
- Buildup of Fluids
- Infection
- Internal Bleeding
- Sudden Death
Although a major IVC filter manufacturer has redesigned its filters, its safety is still in question.
